What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is often referred to as “talk-therapy” and aims to help clients to improve their mental health and overall sense of well-being. Psychotherapy occurs when a client and Registered Psychotherapist agree to collaborate to positively improve a client’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviour.

Will OHIP cover therapy?
OHIP is the Ontario Health Insurance Plan and typically covers mental health services provided by a medical doctor or psychiatrist or in governmentally funded settings. Psychotherapy services offered by Registered Psychotherapists working in private practice settings (including those offered at Mindful Wellness Psychotherapy) are not covered by OHIP; however, are covered by most extended health insurance plans.
If you have extended healthcare insurance coverage, contact your insurance provider directly to obtain eligibility and funding information. Insurance receipts will be provided after each therapy session, which may be submitted to receive reimbursement from your insurance provider, as applicable.
What is the difference between Psychotherapists, Psychologists, and Psychiatrists?
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who provide mental health services and can prescribe medication and diagnose mental health illnesses.
Psychologists typically complete a PhD in psychology, treat mental health concerns, and can diagnose mental health illnesses.
Psychotherapists have master’s degrees, are registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, and treat mental health concerns through a wide range of approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), solution focused therapy, psychodynamic therapies, and so on.
What can I expect at my first session?

How long is each session?
Therapy sessions are typically 55 minutes; however, longer or shorter sessions may be scheduled depending upon individual client needs.
When are session fees due?
Session fees are due and will be invoiced following each session.
How do I select a therapist?
When selecting a psychotherapist in Ontario, it is important to ensure that they are registered and in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. Additionally, the therapeutic relationship between a client and therapist is very important. When selecting a therapist, it is important to choose one that you feel comfortable with, that you can be honest with, that you have a good rapport with, and that offers you empathy, validation, and support in a way that feels right for you.
I understand the significance of the fit between a client and therapist. As such, I offer a complimentary consultation to provide you with sufficient time to determine if we are a good fit.
How often should we meet?
There is no one approach to therapy that will meet all client needs. As such, during our initial consultation, we will discuss your specific needs to determine how often we should meet and for how long.
How do I book a session?
You may book a session online, over the phone, or via email.
